Periodontal Disease

We've all heard of gum disease, and know that it can be prevented by practicing good oral hygiene, but did you know that advanced gum disease can lead to permanent tooth and bone structure loss? Advanced gum disease is called periodontal disease. At this point, the inflammation of the gums present in gingivitis has grown to a serious infection. This infection destroys the root of the tooth as well as the nerves, resulting in tooth loss that will not grow back. When teeth are lost, they leave gaps in the jaw which can lead to a sunken appearance of the face. Luckily periodontal disease can be treated if spotted early. For more information on the disease visit our page for a periodontal disease FAQ.
