Newport Beach Cosmetic Dentist Reviews Sports & Dentistry

Athletes know that sports can be dangerous. Most wear protective gear to prevent damage to their body, yet dental protection is often neglected. Serious dental accidents occur in sports constantly and can be painful and costly to injured athletes. In fact, dental injuries are the most common sports-related injuries. In case of emergency dentistry you must contact your dentist ASAP.

The best way to avoid sports dental injury is to prepare for it. The best preventative measure an athlete can take against dental injury is to wear a mouthguard. Mouthguards are usually made of a soft plastic material that sits in your mouth between your upper and lower teeth. This is meant to act as a shield against your teeth, preventing your teeth from colliding violently and keeping you from accidentally biting down on your tongue or the inside of your mouth. Statistics have shown that those who do not wear mouthguards are 60 times more likely to become seriously impaired than those who do wear mouthguards.
